Its Hullabaloo time again, the 5th annual Children’s Arts Festival for Offaly is back with another cracking midterm programme of exuberant artistic delights for children. Taking place in both Birr and Clara from Wednesday Nov 2nd to Saturday Nov 5th (simultaneously) this is a programme that is being provided for the whole county, not just the two towns.
Some of the highlights include a visit by the Poulnabrone Bouncy Dolmen, a monumental inflatable sculpture by artist Jim Ricks. A replica at twice the scale of the famous 6,000 year old megalithic portal tomb, this will be the one and only time to find a dolmen in Offaly!
A sing a long bus in Clara and a storytelling caravan in Birr will bring the festival right out on the streets, so be prepared to see a bus conductor in a whole new role, and tales of hiccup monsters coming from the caravan. Children can also try their hands at making dragon flies, backyard bugs, films, comic strips or try drumming, singing, dancing, miming or juggling and much more.
There a number of theatre companies coming into Offaly especially for the programme, with Monkeyshine Theatre Company performing a Paper Princess, Dog and String Theatre Company with the Billy Holliday Show and Little Big Top Production’s Jungle Adventure. Look out too for the Moon Garden, a strange world of exotic creatures in Market Square Birr and the film Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is bound to get little people excited.
