The €2M grant under the ACCESS 2 funding scheme which has been allocated to Offaly County Council for the provision of an Arts Centre facility is now in real danger of being lost.

This level of funding may never be available again, particularly in the current economic climate.

Under the ACCESS 2 guidelines, the project must be completed before the end of 2009 to qualify.

We all are aware of how hard the Tullamore Swimming Pool Committee worked over a period of twenty years to raise approximately half a million euros. The grant we are in danger of losing is four times that amount.

There is a lack of interest urgency within the Offaly County Council and Tullamore Town Council (management and councillors) on progressing this issue.

It is now time for those interested in the Arts working together to highlight the requirement for a Community Centre for the Arts.
